The Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center is an internationally acclaimed museum and research facility devoted to preserving and presenting the sweeping history and heritage of the Western Pennsylvania region. The History Center occupies the former Chautauqua Lake Ice Company building, conveniently located in downtown Pittsburgh, just one block from the David Lawrence Convention Center. A dramatic permanent exhibit installation is "Points in Time: Building a Life in Western Pennsylvania, 1750-Today." Other features include changing exhibit galleries, Library and Archives, children's Discovery Place, Museum Shop and Cafe, and the offices of the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania, the state's largest, established in 1879.
