Seven islands in the Allegheny River, totaling 368 acres, are part of this Wilderness. All are alluvial origin, which means they were formed by water-carried deposits of sand, mud, and clay. The islands are located between Buckaloons Recreation Area and Tionesta, PA

» Pittsburgh District Navigation - Locks and Dams  

The Pittsburgh District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates 23 locks and dams on the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio rivers.

» The Allegheny Watershed Network  

The Allegheny Watershed Network was established in 1996 as a forum for education about watershed issues and networking among the many groups, government agencies, businesses and educational institutions, that are active within the Allegheny River watershed.
